Accessibility Statement
Our commitment to making our website accessible to everyone.
Date of Statement: May 3, 2026
Our Commitment
Cornerstone Psychological Services is committed to providing a website that is accessible to all visitors, including people with disabilities. We believe that everyone deserves equal access to information about psychological assessment services, and we work to remove barriers that may prevent people from using our website.
As a psychology practice that serves neurodivergent individuals and families, accessibility is central to our values. We recognize that our visitors may have a range of abilities and access needs, and we design our website with that in mind.
Conformance Target
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA . WCAG 2.2 is the current international standard for web accessibility, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Level AA conformance means our website meets a high standard of accessibility that addresses the needs of most users with disabilities.
We also aim to comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) , which requires Ontario organizations to meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards for web content. Our WCAG 2.2 Level AA target exceeds the AODA minimum requirement.
Accessibility Features
We have implemented the following accessibility features across our website:
Keyboard Navigation
All interactive elements on our website, including links, buttons, forms, and menus, can be accessed and operated using a keyboard alone. You can navigate through the site using the Tab key to move forward, Shift+Tab to move backward, and Enter or Space to activate elements. We have implemented skip navigation links to allow keyboard users to bypass repeated navigation and jump directly to main content.
Screen Reader Support
Our website is built with semantic HTML, which provides a meaningful structure that screen readers can interpret. We use proper heading hierarchy (H1 through H6) to organize content, descriptive link text to indicate where links lead, ARIA labels and roles where additional context is needed, and proper form labels so that all form fields are clearly identified.
Colour Contrast
Text and interactive elements on our website meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA contrast requirements. Normal text meets a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 against its background. Large text meets a minimum contrast ratio of 3:1. User interface components and graphical objects meet a minimum contrast ratio of 3:1. We do not rely on colour alone to convey information. Where colour is used to indicate meaning (such as error states in forms), we also provide text or icons.
Focus Indicators
All focusable elements display a visible focus indicator when selected via keyboard. This makes it clear which element is currently active and helps keyboard users navigate the site. Focus indicators meet WCAG 2.2 minimum size and contrast requirements.
Reduced Motion Support
Where our website uses motion (for example, the rotating informational panel on the home page), we respect the "prefers-reduced-motion" setting in your operating system or browser. When that setting is enabled, the affected animations stop in place and do not rotate. No content on our website relies on animation to be understood, and there is no auto-playing video or audio content.
Text Alternatives
All meaningful images on our website include descriptive alternative text (alt text) that conveys the purpose or content of the image. Decorative images are marked so that screen readers skip them. Icons used as buttons or links include accessible labels.
Responsive Design
Our website adapts to different screen sizes and devices, including desktop computers, tablets, and mobile phones. Content reflows without horizontal scrolling at up to 400% zoom on a standard desktop display. We design interactive touch targets to meet the WCAG 2.2 minimum size and spacing requirements.
Readable Content
We aim to write at approximately a Grade 8 reading level so our content is understandable for a wide audience. We use plain language, short sentences, clear headings, and bullet points to make information easy to find and understand. When we use clinical or technical terms, we provide a plain-language explanation.
Form Accessibility
All form fields have visible labels that remain visible when the field is active. Required fields are clearly identified. Error messages are specific and describe what needs to be corrected. Forms can be completed and submitted using a keyboard alone. Form validation does not rely solely on colour to indicate errors.
Known Limitations
While we work to ensure our website is accessible, we acknowledge the following limitation:
- Future content: as we add documents, embedded media, or third-party tools (for example, online scheduling) in later releases, individual items may not yet meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA at the moment they go live. We commit to providing an accessible alternative on request and to remediating reported issues promptly. If you need a document or interaction in an accessible form, please contact us using the details below.
Assistive Technology Compatibility
Our website is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:
- Screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack)
- Screen magnification software
- Speech recognition software (Dragon NaturallySpeaking)
- Keyboard-only navigation
- Switch access devices
- Browser-based accessibility tools and extensions
Our website is built to work with current versions of major web browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.
